Admirals QuayAdmiral’s Quay

The Admiral’s Quay development hit a huge setback in 2007 when the partially-completed development’s owners, Wilson Bowden, went into administration. For too long the site has remained something of an eyesore. Now, in 2012, things are starting to look like they are finally progressing – with a new developer receiving planning consent to take the Phase 2 development forward. Here we follow the latest developments.

Ocean Village HotelHotel on Promontory

In 2006 permission was granted for a hotel on the promontory at Ocean Village. The original plans detailed a 4 star hotel with 225 rooms, a spa, waterside restaurant, and bars, surrounded by water on three sides. The economic downturn unfortunately halted the project. But fast forward to 2012 and a new developer’s planning application has been given consent, with the work expected to start in Autumn 2012. Here we follow the progress of this development as it moves through planning through to its eventual construction.

Abandoned Royal Crescent Apartments Building SiteRoyal Crescent Apartments

Although this development is not strictly part of “Ocean Village”, it is right on our doorstep. This is the abandoned and stalled development opposite the entrance to Ocean Village on Canute Road. When the downturn hit the developer went out of business and the site has stood neglected ever since. It’s been a ugly blot on the landscape and here we follow the efforts to remedy this.

Chiquito’s restaurant is located on Canute road, on the periphery of Ocean village, nestling behind Admirals Quay and close to the Tesco Express and Merchants restaurant. Early on Saturday 2nd October 2010 the restaurant was badly damaged by fire. Here we follow the process of rebuilding after the fire and bringing the restaurant back into use.

The Chiquito Restaurant re-opened in July 2011.
