Mitchell’s Wings – The True Story of the Spitfire

Coming soon to the Solent Sky Museum (Opposite Ocean Village).

The Maskers Theatre Company in collaboration with Oasis Youth Theatre present “Mitchell’s Wings ,The True Story of the Spitfire”.

A new play By Johnny Carrington with  lyrics by Mark Wheeller and music by Paul Ibbott.

Mitchell's WingsSeventy years ago the skies over Southampton and the rest of southern England were filled with the sights and sounds of the world’s fiercest air battle… men were fighting daily… for their lives.  The Luftwaffe was trying to destroy the RAF so that Germany could launch an invasion. Standing against them were just a few hundred British and commonwealth pilots flying Hurricanes… and Spitfires.

This is a promenade performance where the audience follow the action on foot.  It tells the story of the Southampton man who designed the Spitfire; R.J. Mitchell.  From his humble beginnings as an apprentice in the locomotive yard to chief designer of Supermarine;  ‘Mitchell’s Wings’ shows him battling against illness whilst designing perhaps one of Britain’s most iconic machines.

The play dramatises real testimonies from people whose lives were touched by the Spitfire, from Battle of Britain pilots to the men and women who built it.  Using original music, songs and multi-media ‘Mitchell’s Wings’  tells the story of a genius who designed an aeroplane that, seventy years ago, played a major part in saving our country from tyranny.

The Maskers Theatre Company are delighted to be working with Oasis Youth theatre on this production.
